Last of the Cross Country 5K Series is Tuesday night, July 22nd
For all of you cross country fans (both young and aging), be sure to join us tomorrow night, July 22nd at Veteran’s Park for the last of our 5K series of races on a great cross country course. The cost is $5 and the race starts at 6:00 p.m. Call Michael at the 280 store at 408-5723 if you need more information.
Retro Run – Saturday, July 26th – 6:00 p.m.The Annual
Trak Shak Retro Run is this weekend! Get out your favorite old hippie clothes and join us in downtown Homewood for the funnest evening race around. The 5K will start at 6:05 p.m. with the Kids ½ Mile Run starting at 6:45 p.m. Post-race festivities include lots of Jim ‘n Nick’s BBQ, beverages from Coca-Cola and adult beverages from Budweiser. A meal ticket is included with your entry fee. Additional meal tickets for family members can be purchased for an additional $5. Following dinner, we’ll have a costume contest with a $100 cash prize to the runner with the most creative and outrageous costume. Register online at www.active.com through midnight Thursday. Packet pickup and onsite registration will be available at The Trak Shak Homewood starting on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. through the start of the race. Race d
ay registration will end at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, so show up before then to get registered. The first 475 registrants will receive a Trak Shak / Brooks technical singlet, so register early to guarantee one.
Nike Human Race 10K+
Join us (and millions of others throughout the world) on Sunday morning, August 31st at 6:30 a.m. at our Homewood location for Birmingham’s official event of the Nike Human Race 10K. It’s a 10K where every step counts, no matter how fast, slow, short or long. A million runners worldwide will celebrate human potential by running at least the distance of 6.2 miles (you are more than welcome to do more if you’d like).
Instead of going to Brownell that morning, everyone will meet in front of the Homewood store at 6:30 a.m. to run a 10K course through Homewood. We won’t be officially timing the event, but will set up a clock if you’re interested in seeing how long it takes you. Afterwards, we’ll have some type of breakfast spread laid out for everyone to enjoy.
If you want your miles to be counted in the world wide totals, you’ll need to register at nikeplus.com ahead of time. Supposedly, you could join the Birmingham Trak Shak team when you register, but Nike has had some problems with this component, so you may just have to register individually. Registered with nikeplus.com or not, everyone is welcome to participate and join in on the fun. You’ll be proud to say you ran the day the whole world ran.
