The 2018 Blood Rock 100 or 50 mile trail race will likely be the hardest 50 or 100 you have ever run. The 100 will have well over 40,000 feet of elevation change, the 50 mile, 20,000 ft. However, the elevation gain is not what makes the race so hard. It is the terrain. Our little mountain at Oak Mountain State Park is only 600 feet tall and about 8 miles long but what it lacks in size it makes up for in brutally steep technical climbs and descents, treacherous trails and endless miles of rocks and roots. Then again, there are also some very gentle and very runable trails too.

The course is a 50 mile loop with only one "out/back" section, the Power line, about 3.5 miles long. The Course is almost entirely within the 10,000 acre Oak Mountain State Park. We have permission from the park to use backcountry trails that had never been used in a race until the 2016 Blood Rock 50 mile. Some of those trails get very little use and some, like the abandoned wagon road down the back side of the mountain, had not been used in many years. The Cutoff is 35 Hours for the 100 and the 50 mile cutoff will be 18 Hours. We really do not enforce cutoffs unless they are required by the park such as the 35 Hour cutoff in the 100 and 50 Mile Cutoff of 18 Hours.

The 2018 race will start at the Cabins on Tranquility Lake. We have reserved all 10 cabins for Friday and Saturday night and runners may rent them for the race weekend. You may reserve additional night before and after the race if you wish. We will be able to use the lodge building at the cabins for the pre-race meeting and as the aid station. If you reserve one of the 10 Cabins, you can use it as your personal aid station.  Runners will pass through the Cabins at mile 16 and 50 in the 50 mile. 100 mile runners will come through again at mile 66 and mile 100. Cabins may only be reserved by those running the 100. The cabins rent for $133.00 per night plus taxes and fees. Each cabin has a full kitchen, two bedrooms and sleeps 6. Two cabins are pet friendly. Cabin reservations open April 1st. We had a long wait-list last year so don't wait if you want to reserve a room.
